Question
Reportability--Heme & Lymphoid Neoplasms: Is this case reportable due to receiving treatment and what is the correct histology code? See discussion.

Discussion
Physician suspects patient has a myeloproliferative disorder and would treat her with phlebotomy and hydrea. Patient receives hydrea during her inpatient stay. Patient does not see heme/onc again only palliative med during her admission and they state she has an underlying myeloproliferative disorder. The patient dies as an inpatient.

Answer
Code as Myeloproliferative Disorder, NOS, 9975/3.

Per Rule 4 in the Case Reportability Instructions, "suspects" is a reportable ambiguous term. In Rule 5, instructions state to report the case when the patient is treated for a reportable neoplasm. The patient was treated for myeloproliferative disorder, making the case reportable as a clinical diagnosis.
