SEER Quality Improvement
Who We Are
Quality improvement has been an integral part of SEER Program activities since its inception in 1973. The quality improvement process, restructured in 2000, is dedicated to improving data quality by performing rigorous quality control studies and various data assessments. The study results are used to improve documentation such as the SEER Program Coding and Staging Manual and to provide a focus for educational programs.
Quality improvement methods are developed using appropriate statistical procedures that provide measures to evaluate the performance of the SEER registries. The top performing registries and individuals that do well in the assessments are recognized.
The mission of the NCI SEER Quality Improvement is to improve the quality and completeness of cancer information through assessment, accountability, project evaluation methodology and needs—based education.
What We Do
- Establish, perform, and manage Quality Improvement/Quality Control projects
- Identify standards and systematically measure those standards
- Develop measurement and evaluation tools
- Assess outcomes and performance measures
- Develop quality enhancement strategies
- Assess registry needs and satisfaction
- Monitor quality of data
- Provide education and training to improve data quality
