Annual Report to the Nation 2017: Survival Infographic

This graph shows improvements in 5-year relative survival for the most common cancers combined. It includes the rates for all races combined as well as the rates for whites and the rates for blacks. All three racial groups saw an increase in survival rates between 1975 and 2012. Despite having an increase in survival, blacks had lower rates than whites in both time periods.

The survival rate for all races combined improved from 50.5% in 1975 to 66.4% in 2012.

The survival rate for whites increased from 50.7% in 1975 to 67% in 2012.

The survival rate for blacks increased from 43.4% in 1975 to 60% in 2012.
