Glossary

Chromatin: Found in eukaryotic cells only (cells that have defined nuclei), chromatin is a fibrous complex of eukaryotic DNA and histone proteins, typically containing about twice as much protein as DNA. Major proteins of chromatin are the histones, which facilitate binding to the DNA molecule. Chromatin also contains a variety of nonhistone chromosomal proteins, which are involved in a several different activities including DNA replication and gene expression.
