Mouth: The gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) begins with the mouth. Structures within the mouth are the tongue, gum (gingiva), and teeth. The entire cavity is lined with mucous membrane, but the muscularis mucosae found in other parts of the GI tract is not present in the mouth.
