Cecum: A pouch that forms the first part of the large intestine. It connects the small intestine to the colon, which is part of the large intestine. It is a large cul-de-sac at the lower end of the ascending colon (proximal to the entrance of the ileum into the colon). It comprises the first 5 to 7 cm. of the large intestine.
