Survival: How long a patient has lived since diagnosis or some other beginning point. In general terms, the probability of living a given length of time (such as 5-year survival) based on the characteristics of a group of patients. The survival curve is the graphed series of survival calculations at intervals. Adjusted survival calculations taken into account whether the patient died of cancer. Cumulative survival is the dependency of the later time periods on the earlier survival rates. Observed survival calculations include all patients regardless of their cause of death. Relative survival calculations factor in the survival rate of a similar population without the characteristics (such as cancer) in quesiton.
