Individual-level Survey Sample

Individual-level survey sample refers to sampled data records from probability-based surveys, e.g. the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) or the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The types of health outcomes in which disparities are evaluated can be continuous, dichotomous, or categorical analyzed as dichotomous. Data on survey design factors, i.e. survey weight, stratum, and primary sampling unit (PSU), are expected to ensure the effects of sample designs are appropriately incorporated. If any of these three factors are not provided, the following assumptions are made. Specifically, if survey weight is not provided, the sample is treated as self-weighted, i.e. each record represents the same number of populations. If stratum is not provided, the sample is treated as non-stratified, i.e. the entire sample comes from one stratum. If PSU is not provided, every record is treated as a separate PSU.
