The instructions to request access to SEER's two data products are described below. Once access is granted, the data is made available through the SEER*Stat software.

For SEER Research Plus and NCCR Data

The SEER Research Plus and NCCR Data require user authentication with an eRA Commons or an HHS account. If you cannot obtain an eRA Commons account, are requesting the data for personal use, or do not need access to the additional Research Plus variables, you can register for the Research Data instead.

Note that access to Research Plus Data may be a prerequisite for access to other data such as SEER Specialized databases, NAACCR's CiNA Research data, the NPCR and SEER U.S. Cancer Statistics data, as well as access to data available through the NCCR Data Platform.

Step 1: Apply for Research Plus and NCCR Data Access

  1. Log into the Data Request System
    • For HHS accounts, use your PIV card and log into the Data Request System.
    • For eRA Commons accounts:
      • If you don’t have an eRA Commons account yet, work with your organization to obtain one – refer to the SEER FAQs for help.
      • Make sure the account is associated with an institutional email address (.edu, .gov, .org, or work email address).
      • Once you have an eRA Commons account, link it to a Login.gov account following the instructions in How do I link my eRA Commons account to a Login.gov account? Wait two days for the information to propagate to the SEER system.
      • Log into the Data Request System using your Login.gov credentials.
  2. Complete the application form.
    • The system will pull in the email address automatically from your eRA or HHS accounts. Note that requests using open email accounts like gmail, icloud, 163.com etc. will be rejected.
    • Provide your Signing Official's contact information (must be affiliated with same institution/company).
  3. Acknowledge the following:
  4. Submit the form.
  5. After you submit the form, the SEER program will process your request within 2 business days.
  6. If your request is approved, you will receive an email with your SEER*Stat account details to access the data and how to download the software. Your SEER*Stat account will use the email address from your eRA Commons or HHS account.

Step 2: Download and Install SEER*Stat

  1. Download and install the current version of the SEER*Stat Software. You must be connected to the Internet while using SEER*Stat.
    • Note that SEER*Stat is a Microsoft Windows application.
  2. Log into SEER*Stat using the email address used to request the data.
  3. Set your password:
    1. Go to the Client-Server Set/Change Password link from the Profile menu.
    2. Enter your email address and request an Access Code to set your initial password.

For SEER Research Data (those without eRA Commons or HHS Accounts)

If you cannot obtain an eRA Commons account, are requesting the data for personal use, or do not need access to the additional variables available in the Research Plus Data, you can register for the Research Data.

Step 1: Apply for Research Data Access

  1. Register in the Data Request System with your email address.
  2. Complete the application form.
  3. Acknowledge the following:
  4. Submit the form.
  5. You will receive an email with a link to verify your email address.

After you confirm your email, the SEER program will process your request and you will be given a SEER*Stat account. The account is used to access the data through SEER*Stat.

Specialized Databases

You must already have access to the latest Research Plus Data before you can submit an application to request access to one of the specialized databases. A separate application is needed to access each specialized database. Refer to the Specialized Databases website for more information.
