SEER*Stat will require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when you run SEER*Stat in client-server mode starting in June 2026.
We will support these sign-in services:
- Login.gov for most SEER*Stat accounts
- NIH Login for NIH staff
- IMS Login for IMS employees
After this change, SEER*Stat-specific usernames and passwords will no longer work. You will need to sign in using one of the supported services listed above.
To Prepare for the Change to MFA
SEER*Stat users with an NIH login or IMS employee account do not need to do anything. All other users will need to have a Login.gov account.
If you already have a Login.gov account
If you already have a Login.gov account, you don’t need to create a second one. You can use your existing Login.gov account to sign in to SEER*Stat. However, the email address used to login must match the SEER*Stat email address. If needed, you can add your SEER*Stat email address to your existing Login.gov account, since Login.gov allows multiple email addresses associated with one Login.gov account.
If you do not have a Login.gov account
You will need a Login.gov account to access SEER*Stat once Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is implemented.
You have two options:
- Create a Login.gov account now or any time before MFA is required
- Wait and create an account the next time you log in after MFA is required
To create an account, follow the instructions on the Login.gov “Create an account” help page. We recommend using the email address that is associated with your SEER*Stat account. Login.gov also allows you to add multiple email addresses to a single Login.gov account.
What are the benefits of MFA?
The use of multi-factor authentication, sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication, is an added layer of security. Using a sign-in service, such as Login.gov, allows you to have one account to access multiple government programs, rather than managing multiple accounts with different usernames and passwords.
