Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Starting with version 9.1.0, released September 10,  2026, SEER*Stat requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when using client-server mode. 

We support these sign-in services:

1. Login.gov for most SEER*Stat accounts
2. ID.me as an alternative to Login.gov
3. NIH Login for NIH staff
4. IMS Login for IMS employees

You must sign in using one of the supported services listed above. SEER*Stat-specific usernames and passwords are no longer used. Refer to How to Login to SEER*Stat for more information.

SEER*Stat users with an NIH login or IMS employee account  should use their respective sign in services. All other users will need to have a Login.gov or ID.me account. 

Using Login.gov 

If you already have a Login.gov account

If you already have a Login.gov account, you should not create a second one. You can use your existing Login.gov account to sign in to SEER*Stat. However, the email address used to login must match the SEER*Stat email address. If needed, you can add your SEER*Stat email address to your existing Login.gov account since Login.gov allows multiple email addresses associated with one Login.gov account.

If you do not have a Login.gov account

To create a Login.gov account, follow the instructions on the Login.gov “Create an account” help page. We recommend using the email address that is associated with your SEER*Stat account. Login.gov also allows you to add  multiple email addresses to a single Login.gov account.

Using ID.me 

You can use ID.me as an alternative to Login.gov. Use ID.me if: 

• Login.gov does not work for you, or
• You already have an ID.me account you prefer to use. 

If you already have an ID.me account

If you already have an ID.me account, you should not create a second one. You can use your existing ID.me account to sign in to SEER*Stat. However, the default email address on your ID.me wallet must match your SEER*Stat email address. Follow the instructions to change your default email on ID.me if necessary. 

If you do not have an ID.me account

To create an ID.me account, follow the instructions on the login form to Create an ID.me Wallet. You must set your SEER*Stat account email address as your default ID.me email. You can then add any other personal or professional emails to ID.me as backup.

What are the benefits of MFA?

The use of multi-factor authentication, sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication, is an added layer of security. Using a sign-in service, such as Login.gov, allows you to have one account to access multiple government programs, rather than managing multiple accounts with different usernames and passwords.
