Definition
Describes cells that have a protein called CD22 on their surface. CD22 is found mostly on B cells (a type of white blood cell) and controls many important cell functions, including cell signaling, cell adhesion, cell growth, and cell survival. CD22 is also found on many B-cell leukemia and lymphoma cells. Cancer cells that make too much CD22 may grow more quickly. Knowing whether a cancer is CD22 positive may help plan treatment.
