A synthetic progestin; appetite stimulant. FDA approved palliative uses in advanced endometrial carcinoma and advanced breast carcinoma. Also for the treatment of anorexia, cachexia, and significant weight loss in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; administered orally.
