A synthetic progestin; appetite stimulant. FDA approved palliative uses in advanced endometrial carcinoma and advanced breast carcinoma. Also for the treatment of anorexia, cachexia, and significant weight loss in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; administered orally.
Megace may be coded as first course treatment (hormone) when given in combination with other antineoplastic drugs. Megace is most often given for advanced breast and endometrial cancers, but it's use is not limited to advanced/metastic/recurrent disease.
