Abstractor Notes
This code may be used for cases diagnosed prior to 1/1/2010, and 2026. See 9811/3 for years 2010-2025.
Because of advances in the field of molecular biology, neoplasms that were called "precursor" are now identified as specific neoplasms with genetic or CD abnormalities. This code and code description is not included in the 2008 WHO classification of hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms. Those leukemias previously coded to this classification have now been reclassified by their genetic or cell antigen abnormalities.
This code may be used for DCO cases or those cases with minimal information. For further information on the coding and abstracting of this neoplasm, see histology codes 9811.

Alternate Names
Acute lymphocytic leukemia (see 9811/3 for 2010-2025)
FAB L1 [OBS] (see 9811/3 for 2010-2025)
FAB L2 [OBS] (see 9811/3 for 2010-2025)
Definition
In the past, ALL lymphoblasts were classified using the FAB criteria as having L1, L2 or L3 morphology. Because of the lack of independent prognostic significance and the subjective nature of this classification system, it is no longer used. Precursor ALL is either B-cell or T-cell.
