Definition
A progressive disease of the bone marrow. Neoplastic bone marrow stem cells lodge and grow in multiple sites outside the bone marrow. Symptoms include enlargement of the spleen and a gradual replacement of the bone marrow elements by fibrosis (scarring), progressive anemia, and variable changes in the number of white blood cells and platelets.

Myelofibrosis (NOS) and secondary myelofibrosis by themselves are non-reportable. For reportable terms related to myelofibrosis, see code 9961/3, Primary myelofibrosis.

Autoimmune myelofibrosis is associated with lupus.
