Remarks

Synthroid should be coded as hormonal treatment for thyroid cancer. After thyroid surgery, the thyroid hormone medication levothyroxine (Levothroid, synthroid, etc) is prescribed often for life. This drug has two benefits: it supplies the missing hormone the thyroid would normally produce, and it suppresses the production of thyroid-simulating hormone (TSH) from the pituitary gland. High TSH levels could conceivably stimulate any remaining cancer cells to grow.

This drug is more commonly used in patients with papillary, follicular carcinomas or one of their variants.
