Remarks

Adrenocortical steroid. In general, this drug is used more commonly for supportive care, and as an antiemetic than it is as hormone therapy. An ester of dexamethasone, having actions similar to those of the base and used in replacement therapy in adrenal insufficiency and as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant; administered by intra-arterial, intramuscular, intralesional, or soft-tissue injection. Dexamethasone and other corticosteroids may be used to suppress white cell proliferation in hematopoietic diseases and would be coded as hormone therapy for lymphoid leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
