Not found in Drugdex drug evaluation (alternative medicine product). Neurosteroid class; precursor hormone to more than 150 human steroid hormones. An intermediate compound in the synthesis of the steroid hormones, converted into progesterone, estradiol, estrone, aldosterone and cortisol. There is a synthetic preparation of this hormone, used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Contraindicated in those with hormone-dependent prostate cancer.
