Answer:
Updated May 2026
All variants of Langerhans cell histiocytosis were reportable to all agencies as 9751/3 for cases diagnosed 2010-2020.
Starting in 2021, 9751/3 is for Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, disseminated (multifocal, multiorgan, multisystem) disease. Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, limited to a single organ/system, or not designated as single, or multiple (includes LCH, NOS), is coded as 9751/1 and is reportable for CNS sites only.
History:
This SINQ question has been updated to the Hematopoietic & Lymphoid Neoplasm Manual & Database published January 2014.
The original answer below was written based on the rules in 2010
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) [9751/3] is reportable to all agencies starting with cases diagnosed 1/1/2010 and later. See the Hematopoietic Manual, Reportability Instructions, Instruction 6, and Appendix D New Histology Terms and Codes.
This above change is also reflected in the Heme DB. For cases diagnosed 2010-2011, access the Hematopoietic Database at http://seer.cancer.gov/tools/heme/. Click on Hematopoietic Project. Click on Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Database. For 2010-2011 diagnoses, click on the "use the 2010 database" label in the upper right corner of the screen. The 2010 Hematopoietic Coding Manual (PDF) button will appear to indicate the correct version of the program is available now for query.
Enter in to the Heme DB to search for the histology. Click on the SEARCH button. Scroll down and highlight the term "Langerhans cell histiocytosis" [9751/3] on the screen under the RESULTS FOR ALL TERMS area.
Scroll to the ABSTRACTOR NOTE section which states that Langerhans cell histiocytosis is reportable for cases diagnosed 2010 and later.
