These databases are available only to U.S. based researchers affiliated with U.S. institutions.

The databases include DecisionDX Cutaneous Melanoma (CM)-related data fields for skin melanoma cases. These data were obtained through a linkage of CM cases (morphology codes 8720-8790) from the SEER registries to DecisionDX CM test results provided by Castle Biosciences. The Alaska Native Tumor Registry did not participate in the linkage. Details about the linkage methods can be found in a journal article (1). Approximately 562,000 CM cases diagnosed from 2013 to 2019 were included in the linkage, of which 16,518 cases were linked to DecisionDX CM test results.

Database Details

There are two Cutaneous Melanoma with DecisionDX fields databases available to request, one with and one without Census Tract Attributes. The need for Census Tract Attributes should be described in the Research Objectives and Study Design section of the application, and the planned use of the attributes should be explained in the Analytic Plan section of the application.

The databases are available in the Case Listing, Frequency, and Survival sessions in SEER*Stat for the November 2023 data submission. The databases are identical to the SEER Research Plus database (17 Registries (excl Ak)) other than the specialized fields described above.

  1. Cutaneous Melanoma with DecisionDX Fields Database
    • This one is linked to county-level attributes, which include county-level SES, rurality, and demographics.
    • It includes all tumor records from 2000 to 2021 with follow-up through 2021, but the DecisionDX CM fields are available for tested patients diagnosed 2013 to 2019.
    • The number of patients with at least one linked test result is 9,641 patients/9,698 tumors.
  2. Cutaneous Melanoma with DecisionDX Fields with Census Tract Attributes Database
    • There are no geographic identifiers included in this database due to confidentiality concerns.
    • It includes all tumor records from 2006 to 2021 with follow-up through 2021, but the DecisionDX CM fields are available for tested patients diagnosed 2013 to 2019.
    • The number of patients with at least one linked test result is 9,641 patients/9,698 tumors.
    • For detailed information about census tract-level SES and rurality variables, refer to Census Tract-level SES and Rurality Database.

Please cite the SEER Specialized Database name in any publications. The database name can be found in the approval email and in SEER*Stat.

Additional versions of this database will become available in the future (e.g., including additional registries). Some of these additional databases may require IRB approval. Periodic linkages have been conducted to update the database).

Data Limitations and Analytical Considerations

The SEER treatment data is limited to the first course of treatment, therefore it does not have the full sequence of treatments (refer to the Treatment Data Limitations for more information).
