This supplemental monograph combines cancer incidence data from the CDC's National Program of Cancer Registries and the SEER Program, along with record linkages and geographic factors, to provide a comprehensive description of the cancer burden in the American Indian/Alaska Native population in the United States. Each chapter addresses a different issue that is unique to this population. The monograph seeks to educate medical providers and the public about the various challenges that are faced by this ethnic group, and provide the impetus for further research in hopes of improving survival and the quality life for members of this community.
