The specialized incidence database includes FIPS codes for state and county, and is available in the Case Listing session in SEER*Stat. Note that county codes are also included in the SEER Research Plus Data but are not available in the Case Listing sessions; they can only be used to calculate rates or survival statistics. This specialized database allows users to view lists of individual tumors or patients through the Case Listing session and export the records for further analyses using statistical software such as SAS or R. This capability enables flexible regression analyses with county attributes as covariates or stratification variables. Once exported outside of SEER*Stat, users can augment the database with other county attributes. For a list of available attributes, which measure the demographic and socioeconomic profiles of counties, refer to SEER County/Tract Attributes.
Access Requirements
- You must already have access to the latest SEER Research Plus Data before a specialized data request can be submitted. Refer to How to Request Data Access for more information.
- Each request will first be reviewed by NCI SEER staff for provisional approval.
- Provisionally approved request is then required to obtain IRB review from the National Cancer Institute's central Institutional Review Board (cIRB). The data requestor will receive detailed instructions on how to apply to cIRB in an email notification of provisionally approved request.

Data Limitations and Analytical Considerations
Please be advised that this specialized Incidence Database with County Codes is equipped with a suite of county attributes ready to be analyzed. Users who plan to merge additional county attributes with this incidence database are required to provide a complete list of data sources with information about the definition and a full reference of each county attribute. You must also acknowledge the source of the county attributes in any publications.
